Making your Website
ADA Compliant is a Must

508/ADA Compliance Graphic

Web Accessibility is a feature your website will need. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires many businesses, associations, and non-profits to have their websites and marketing materials ADA compliant.

Businesses are considered to be places of public accommodation, even government sites, commercial websites selling goods or services, and websites open to the general public need to be ADA compliant.

The good news is having your website ADA complaint is something we at Washington Graphic Services can do quickly and affordably.

We can review your existing website and give you a quick overview of what it would take to make your website ADA compliant. Many sites may require only a few hours of our time or you can allow us to upgrade your existing site and make it ADA compliant.

Take adequate steps for your online business to make it accessible to the disabled by contacting Washington Graphic Services.

Content and Coding That Works for Google Search and Rankings

508/ADA Compliance Graphic

Is the contention your website failing to rank? Find out why and how to create engaging, helpful content that meets Google's standards.

People can often assume that if you have a website, you are listed on search engines and will appear with subject terms typed into the search window. Not true. Search engines exist to make money, not to list or rank you for free. You have options…. these take time, resources, and effort. Paid search ads can put you where you want to be listed if approved by Google. But you must prove to Google you are legitimate and that you offer what your website claims. This process can take time and Google doesn’t make it easy. Costs to be on Google Ads will depend on what your products and other services are and who your competition is. You create a budget and Google will stop showing your ads and website after your budget is spent for the month.

If getting sales or calls from your website is critical then this is the most sure-fire way of making it happen faster.

(SEO), Search Engine Optimization is a methodology of getting your website listed through a process of content, how your website is built, techniques and technologies built into your site, and ongoing requests to be listed by a professional. This method takes time, search engines call this the “organic” listings or the (free) listings. Both efforts to get your website on search engines can be done at once. Patience will be required because no search engine will guarantee you a timeline of placement.

Washington Graphic Services strongly suggests you have your website built from the ground up with the latest tools, techniques, and content that a professional website builder can provide. The backend code (the invisible part) can be the huge difference between having a great searchable site… to not.

Call Washington Graphic Services… we build great websites that get you listed.

30 years Experience in Creating Unique Logos and Branding

508/ADA Compliance Graphic

Washington Graphic Services (WGS) have been creating original logos and branding for large and small business for over 30 years. If your business needs a new brand identity or a refresh from an existing logo consider Washington Graphic Services.

We can create a new logo for a business, organization, special event, anniversary or trade show. Our creative team can incorporate your logo in brochures, websites, packaging and corporate identity materials.

A logo is important because it:

1. Reveals your identity

Imprinted on your products, your business card and your website, your logo communicates ownership. It can tell the world/potential customers who you are, what type of product or service you sell, or what benefit you offer consumers.

2. Invites new customers to get to know you

People are drawn to interesting design and color. The logo that marks your package or adorns your storefront should be designed to draw interest and pique the curiosity of your potential customers, prompting them to at least look, and hopefully purchase your product.

3. Distinguishes you from the competition

A good logo reflects who you are, describes your products and business. Your logo should also distinguish you from everybody else. A good logo should dare to be different.

4. Creates brand loyalty

From time to time, a company will redesign their logo, perhaps to update their look or reflect some other corporate change. As a marketer, I get this. As a consumer, I hate it. When I’ve become accustomed to my favorite brands’ logo and they change it, I feel a little betrayed. Now I’ve got to retrain my brain to look for something new. Brand loyalty is huge and something every business needs to foster. A recognizable and familiar logo goes a long way toward building brand loyalty.

5. Your brand can be everywhere

Placing your logo on all of your marketing, packaging, products, social media, website, etc. is a way to advertise your brand and your message consistently.

WGS creates customized logos for all our clients. We provide 6-10 original concepts for each project and allow our clients the flexibility to choose elements, color, fonts and illustrations from each presentation.

Call Washington Graphic Services and let us create a logo, brand and corporate identity packages for you. We are fast, responsive and experienced.

Advertising on Google, Yahoo, and Bing

Google, Yahoo, and Bing Advertisments

Most search every day for products, services, news, and almost anything we need to know or buy. The listings at the top of each search are almost always placed ads. If you need to be found, paying to be listed is the best way to get there.

There are free (organic) areas including Goggle Business listings and Google Maps, but that too requires effort, application and most importantly PATIENCE. These search engines don’t make it easy, or user friendly. You must prove you are a legitimate business and prove your location too. The process, and the interface to do this right is not for the faint of heart.

There are many details to consider before getting your website listed… may we suggest you hire a professional firm that has done this many times. The process of application and how to get listed is always changing and so are their rules.

If you need help getting your business listed on search engines... give Washington Graphic Services a call.

Steps To Improve Your Website

homepage of WGS website
There is a method to get your website read and understood by an online audience. Here are just a few tips to consider.
1. Large font
Larger font is easier to read than small font. The font size should be at least 14px, or even 16px.
2. Line height
Line height is the distance between two adjacent lines of text. If there’s more space between the lines, it’s easier to read.
3. Contrast in color
It’s easiest to read black text on white background as the contrast is very stark.
4. Narrow Lines and Columns
It’s way easier to read narrow lines than really long lines. Newspapers and magazines get it.
5. Use Sub-headlines
Add a sub-headline after every 2 paragraphs or so. It helps you break down the general pattern, thus makes it easier to read.
6. Use bullet points
Bullets points make it easier to read, break text apart and they’re especially good for lists.
7. Use Photos, Images and Graphics
People also “get” visuals much faster than text, our brains are just wired that way.
8. Short Sentences
We scan websites FAST. You need to tell your viewer quickly…think, how do I read websites?
Washington Graphic Services is here to help on "everything websites". Give us a call.

What is Website 508/ADA Compliance?

508/ADA Compliance Graphic

It is a set of requirements and guidelines that has to be followed to ensure that information is accessible to individuals with disabilities.

Federal agencies and businesses that work with or have contracts with the federal government have to be compliant with Section 508. This law concerns any company that cooperated with federal agencies, including but not limited to legal organizations, private contractors, healthcare and financial industries, and more.

In order to make your website accessible, you have to follow the Website Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0). Also, check out the key features and make your website compliant with Section 508.

Washington Graphic Services can review your existing website and give you a quick overview of what it would take to make your website 508 and ADA compliant. Many sites may require only a few hours of our time or you can allow us to upgrade your existing site and make it ADA compliant.

Take adequate steps for your online business to make it accessible to the disabled by contacting Washington Graphic Services.

Every Business Requires Content Creation

Content creation graphic

Being in business requires you to "wear many hats”. You must be an entrepreneur, but you very likely have to be a content creator too. Between websites, e-newsletters, social media posts, and blogs, creating content has become part of the fabric of being a business.

Many clients ask: What works online?

It’s one thing to have a post on your website or Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn page - it’s another to have a post that engages people and moves them to like, swipe, click, share, or buy.

Washington Graphic Services writes, markets, and posts online content, including articles, e-books, social media posts, and e-newsletters. We always prompt all our clients to save every acquired email address they receive in their business dealings for future e-newsletter mailings.

In our postings we try these strategies:

  • Have a conversation. Feel Free to be less formal, your tone should be one of a friend and less salesman-like.
  • Say something of interest. Give a tip, tell a good story, give a great analogy. Create content that piques interest and has some valuable resources.
  • Graphics and visuals work. We are a culture of visual scanners and we click through sites and web pages quickly. Create images that attract the eye and visually tell your story.
  • Headlines capture interest. Headlines that work do two things: First, they bring you in, and second, they don’t mislead.
  • Short-but-sweet. Writing online content is not writing a book. Your paragraphs need to be short; most often we suggest six sentences or less.
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO) works. Content and keywords related to your business can really help you get listed on search engines. Keywords, content, and tags (properly done) are important elements of search engine efforts.
  • The Customer is king. Your online content is your “brand" and your business. Make all your created content worth your customers' time.

Broken Links & Widgets in WordPress Websites

warning message for broken links

Having broken links, widgets that no longer function, and errors on your WordPress site is bad news for both your human visitors and your site's searchability on Google and Yahoo.

Broken links are bad for your WordPress site for a few different reasons.

First, there’s the effect on your human visitors. If someone is clicking a link, they’re doing so because they’re interested in the content that they were told the link would take them to. So, by sending them to a broken link instead of the content that you promised them, you’re creating a frustrating experience for your visitors, and that by itself is a good incentive to find and fix broken links on your site.

Broken links aren’t just bad for humans, though, they’re also bad for robots. Specifically, the crawler bots used by search engines like Google.

First off, broken links waste your crawl equity in Google. Every 404 page that a Googlebot encounters as a result of broken links is a live page that Google could have crawled instead.

Beyond that, broken links are also a waste of link equity. For example, if you have a broken internal link from one blog post to another, you’re not getting the SEO benefit of that internal link, which is a negative for your SEO efforts.

Every website should be reviewed regularly for old content, broken links, widget updates, SSL certificates, user experience, speed, hosting issues, and alike.

Contact Washington Graphic Services! We can update, maintain, and keep your website fresh, relevant, and issue free!

Beautiful Google Fonts for your Website

homepage of WGS website

Building attractive, user-friendly, legible fonts for your website isn’t always easy, but Google Fonts for websites has helped solve that problem. Having started small, the directory now includes more than 600, optimized fonts which can be added to your site by embedding a snippet of code. Prior to this if the user did not have the fonts in their computer system their default font would show a font not meant by the designer or creator, thus the website would not look or display as it should. This was a real problem and clients would be very upset if they were to view their websites on another computer without their fonts being installed and then see their sites very visually wrong.

Now Washington Graphic Services has the ability to design websites with even more options and font choices for a more unique and one of a kind look for your website without the worry of end-users not having fonts installed in their systems. The final website we design will look great on every computer screen everywhere!

Give Washington Graphic Services a call! We can create a new optimized website with fresh new content, bold exciting graphics, SSL certificates - and coded so that your website is found on search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing!

Catalogs Make An Effective Marketing Tool

screenshot of online catalog

Online shopping offers customers almost anything they want. The digital age has allowed us to access everything with our fingertips. All we need is to possess a tablet, phone, or desktop computer. The virtual world is transforming into a universal shopping playground where we get unlimited access to products. Before buying a product, we can also know about its specifications with user reviews.

Despite the prevailing trend of online shopping, catalog marketing is still an effective marketing tool that is implemented by many small and mid-sized organizations. Many organizations are even hiring catalog design companies for this purpose. One cannot deny the benefits of catalogs as a marketing tool.

Unlike brochures, catalogs mainly focus on content. Catalogs are structured in a manner to highlight content over products. In this age of cut-throat market competition, every organization is trying to give an innovative touch to their catalogs. After looking at the catalog, you can get an idea about an organization’s products and services.

In this internet-driven age, marketers are increasingly resorting to digital catalogs to make an imprint in the minds of consumers. The digital catalog design companies adhere to the guidelines as set by their clients.

Contact Washington Graphic Services to design, create, write, and manufacture your printed or online catalogs for increased sales and product exposure!

Business Websites With User Content

chart of UGC ideas

User-Generated Content (UGC) is content that is submitted by consumers, customers, clients and visitors to a website. It can come in many forms, from comments to embedded links, tweets, open-submissions and reviews.

Content is king on websites and user content can really help. UGC can greatly increase engagement with websites, as well as shareability and authenticity. Of course, along with benefits are possible-if-not-almost-certain negatives.

Areas to consider:

It needs to be moderated. Users will upload whatever they like, from inappropriate sites to offensive words, or totally irrelevant content.

Engage viewers/customers to continuously generate new content

Copyright infringement, with an in-house content creation team, submissions usually have to go through a process before they reach publication. They will be checked, assets confirmed as royalty-free and they will have a knowledge of what you can and what you can’t do.

Verified sources are important. Negative comments or sources can damage a brand, particularly when other users have no way of knowing if the contributor is trustworthy or not.

With a clear strategy and contingency plan in place, UGC can end up being a very successful and profitable way of driving engagement to a website. Contact Washington Graphic Services if you are considering this feature on your website or would like to discuss possible website enhancements or marketing strategies.

You might be wondering if you’re covering all the bases by simply keeping file size in check. In fact, there’s a lot to consider if you truly want to optimize your site’s images.

Washington Graphic Services works hard to optimize our clients' websites. We utilize image processing tools and content delivery networks (CDNs) available that can handle all the complexities of image optimization. Ultimately, these services can save you time and resources, while also covering more than one aspect of optimization.

Image optimization is so important because if your site is slow, laggy, or difficult to navigate you will lose customers. If you decide not to optimize your images, you’re essentially tying a heavy weight to all of your media elements. All that extra weight can drag your site down a lot. Fortunately, optimizing your images trims away the unnecessary data your images might be carrying around.

If you’re not sure how your website is currently performing, you can contact our team for a review. Call us!

We can review your existing website and give you a quick overview of what it would take to make your website ADA compliant. Many sites may require only a few hours of our time or you can allow us to upgrade your existing site and make it ADA compliant.

Offset Vs Digital Printing - Choose What's Best for You

Printing is a complex topic, and there are always many options to choose from when it comes to colors, materials, and techniques. The quality of your print says a lot about who you are as a brand - you can either be an entity standing a cut above others, and you can forego an enhanced customer experience and go unnoticed.

So you want to know which technique to use? We'll outline the key things you need to know about each technique, right here:

Offset

  • Cheap at high print runs (2,000+ copies)
  • More precise colors - artwork can hit exact PMS tones
  • 1-3 days for ink to dry
  • Specialty inks and materials possible

Digital

  • Cheap at low print runs (<2,000 copies)
  • Deeper color range
  • No waiting for ink to dry
  • Data changes per print possible
